Funkified (Abbreviated or Americanized) Nigerian names!
I have always wondered how Bob has anything to do with Robert or Bill, anything to do with William. In the Western world (especially in US), abbreviating your name is a normalcy and people almost do anything to make up an abbreviated form of their own names. It's so deeply embedded in the society to the point that sometimes, when I introduce myself as Dare, some people say, "Can I call you D?" I'm like, for God's sake, morrasucker (like Micahel Blackson says), it's just 4 letters. For we Nigerians, help has finally arrived. A good friend of mine sent me an article about Nigerian names being funkified through abbreviations. It's hilarious. Here are some examples:
Oladele - Dale. (Pls, Dale ko, Dali ni) Uchenna-----Cheney (What?) Garba----------Gary (Orisirisi!) Ngozi-------------------------Goslet (What does that have to do with omo Ibo!) Anywayz, here is the article: http://nigeriaworld.com/feature/publication/david-west/naija_rooney/070601.html
Laugh a little! : )
